The Eden Project

Possibly the biggest attraction in Cornwall and one that certainly puts the county on the map is the renowned Eden Project. This is a project conceived by Tim Smit. The aim was to construct and maintain a large-scale environmental complex on a property located about 8 km (5 mi) from St Austell in Bodelva, Cornwall.

The Eden Project has quickly become one of the most popular visitor attractions in the United Kingdom, despite it being relatively new. It is made up of two giant, transparent domes, each emulating a natural biome, that contain various plant species from all over the world. The first dome contains a tropical environment, the other a warm temperate, Mediterranean-type environment.

This successful project took a total duration of two and a half years to construct. It was officially opened to the public in March, 2001.

With no plant life there would be no life on earth. Generally, at the end of every day you will probably have used plants from every continent. The Eden Project is aimed at attempting to tell the amazing story of man's relationship with plants and its dependence on them.

Eden is a scientific organisation charity for the 21st Century. It is committed to communicate, educate, entertain and involve the public in the pursuit of its mission
